WATERVILLE – Robert E. Boyns, 86, died Sunday, March 22, 2009, at the Maine Veterans Administration Center, Togus. He was born Jan. 12, 1923, in Grafton, Mass., the son of Alfred and Willhelmina (Buck) Boyns. He was formerly employed as a wood pattern maker for Allied Signal Co. In his early years, he played the saxophone. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran and had served in Burma. He was formerly a member of Grafton Baptist Church and was a bass singer with the Barbershop Quartet. He also played with Lincolnville Band in Lincolnville, and Esquires Band in the Grafton – Worcester (Mass.) area. He then moved to Belfast and was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Church, where he served as a cantor. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking and various crafts around the house. He is survived by his loving wife, Monica (Kelley) Boyns of Waterville; two sons, Stephen D. Boyns and wife, Pauline, of Oxford, and Robert C. Boyns and wife, Karen, of Worcester, Mass.; one daughter, Janet L. Landry and her partner, Stephen Burgess, of Grafton, Mass.; three stepchildren, Dominic Lanzillo and wife, Nancy, of Maple Ridge, British Columbia, John Lanzillo of San Diego, and Mary Lanzillo of Auburn, Mass.; four grandchildren, one great-grandchild, several nieces and nephews. A funeral Mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. Friday, March 27, at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 81 Court St., Belfast. Committal prayers and burial will take place Saturday, March 28, at Pine Grove Cemetery, Grafton, Mass. Arrangements were made by Gallant Funeral Home, 10 Elm St., Waterville.
