BAR HARBOR – Richard Roy Rechholtz, 82, passed away March 22, 2009, at a Bangor hospital. Dick was born June 9, 1926, in Flushing, N.Y., the son of August B. and Frances M. (Wirth) Rechholtz. After graduating from high school in 1944, Dick enlisted in the U.S. Navy as a hospital corpsman. While in the Navy, Dick was awarded the Victory Medal and American Theater Medal. In 1949, Dick graduated from Davis & Elkins College, Elkins, W.Va., with a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration. In September 1951, Dick married his college sweetheart, Rosalie A. Weill, and together they started a family. Dick worked for Swift & Co., and later worked for Shell Oil Co. In 1962, Dick and Rosalie, with three children, decided to move to Bar Harbor to raise the family. Dick was employed for 25 years by Maine Department of Labor, Bureau of Employment Security, retiring in June 1986. As a younger man, Dick was a sports enthusiast, playing baseball, football and hockey. While living in Maine, Dick became an avid duck hunter and was a follower of University of Maine sports. Dick’s biggest joy in life was his children and grandchildren. Dick is survived by his wife, Rosalie Rechholtz; and three children, who all live in Bar Harbor, Deborah L. Rechholtz, Richard P. Rechholtz and wife, Line, and Robert R. Rechholtz. Dick adored and loved spending time with his three granddaughters, Kristie, Alisha and Natalie. Dick has one brother, Robert A. Rechholtz and wife, Caroline, of Chapel Hill, N.C.; one sister, Doris, who passed away recently and husband, Trevor Hill, of Ashburn, Va.; several nieces and nephews. A private memorial service will be held this spring with internment at Ledgelawn Cemetery, Bar Harbor.
