EAST MILLINOCKET – Roderick J. “Roddy” Robertson, 84, husband of the late Marguerite (Mayo) Robertson, went to his eternal rest Thursday, March 26, 2009. He was born Dec. 2, 1924, in East Millinocket, the only son of William G. and Gladys (Pickett) Robertson. Roddy was raised in East Millinocket and attended Garret Schenck Junior High School, graduating with the Class of 1943. After graduation, he entered the U.S. Navy and served in the South Pacific during World War II from 1943 to 1946. Rod worked 39 years for Great Northern Paper Co., most of that time as a millwright. He married Marguerite Mayo, in 1950 and together they worked for East Branch Sno Rovers Snowmobile Club, which Rod helped establish by serving on the committee and was a member from the start. He was also a member of American Legion, Carpenters & Joiners Union and served for 45 years on the board of directors of Eastmill Federal Credit Union. Rod is survived by three sisters, Josephine Fiske, Hilda Ciarrocchi and Pauline “Billie” Farrington; as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, Rod was predeceased by his parents. The family acknowledges and extends a special thank you to his caregivers, Kelley Coon and Evelyn Lakeman. He will be sorely missed by his neighbors, Ronnie and Valice Austin; as well as his niece, Becky and Steve Coon and their families. Friends are invited to visit with the family 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday at Lamson Funeral Home, 17 Western Ave., East Millinocket, where funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, March 28.
