WOODLAND – Louise H. Norsworthy, 91, wife of the late Harold P. Norsworthy, died March 31, 2009, at her residence. She was born Jan. 9, 1918, in Caribou, the daughter of Robert L. and Luda (Goodwin) Powell. She was a graduate of Caribou High School, Class of 1935 and a graduate of the University of Maine at Presque Isle. Louise started her teaching career in a one-room schoolhouse in Woodland, then at the Woodland consolidated school, until her retirement in 1978. She was a member of Gray Memorial United Methodist Church, Caribou, where she was also a member of United Methodist Women’s Group and Jennie Lyon Circle. She was a member of Aroostook Retired Teachers Association, Caribou Day Extension and Woodland Historical Society. Louise is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, David and Linda Norsworthy of Woodland; two brothers, Keith Powell, and Richard Powell and his wife, Dawn, both of Caribou; two grandchildren, Sheila Cyr of Presque Isle, and Jennifer Espling and her husband, Darrell, of Caribou; four great-grandchildren, Erica Cyr and Emily Cyr, both of Presque Isle, and Paige and Caleb Espling, both of Caribou; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two sisters, Maxine Currie and Meta Golding; a brother, Orris Powell; and three sisters-in-law, Beulah McNeal, Bessie Bird and Amy Ireland. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir St., Caribou. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, April 2, at Gray Memorial United Methodist Church with Pastor Ellen Cleaves officiating. Spring interment will take place at Evergreen Cemetery.
