BRADLEY – Homer A. Olsen, 96, died March 29, 2009, at his home, as he had wished. He was born Sept. 28, 1912, in Falmouth, the son of Frederick and Johanna Olsen. Homer attended schools in Falmouth and Portland and served in the U.S. Army and later in the Navy during World War II. He was a mason by trade and left his artistic mark on many of the homes in the Falmouth/Portland area. He was a member of St. John’s Episcopal Church, Bangor. Homer was a good and kind man who loved life and will be sorely missed by all those who were fortunate enough to know him. He loved life with a passion and received his pilot’s license at age 60, had his own plane, and then learned to play the organ. Homer is survived by his wife, Joanne (Baker) Olsen of Bradley; stepsons, Gregory Hutchins and his wife, Deidre, of Winthrop, Christopher Hutchins and his wife, Dorothy, of North Vassalboro, and Jeffrey Hutchins and his wife, Betsy, of Leeds; stepgrandchildren, Celia Hutchins, Andrew Hutchins and his wife, Heather, Travis Hutchins and Benjamin Hutchins; sisters-in-law, Connie England and her husband, Robert, and Margaret Comeau and her husband, Frank; brother-in-law, Peter Baker; special nephews, Herbert Olsen and his wife, Diana, of Otisfield, and Monty Downing and his wife, Madeline, of Fairhaven, Mass. He was predeceased by his first wife, Frances, in 1984; and all of his several brothers and sisters. At Homer’s request, committal services will be private later in the spring at Blanchard Cemetery, Falmouth. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to St. John’s Episcopal Church Outreach Program, 234 French St., Bangor, ME 04401 or Hospice of Eastern Maine, 885 Union St., Bangor, ME 04401. The wonderful care that hospice provided allowed him to have his final wish to end his life in his own home before his journey to his heavenly home. Arrangements by Memorial Alternatives, 205 Center St., Bangor.
