BAILEYVILLE – Kenneth Leroy Hanson, 75, passed away Sunday, May 3, 2009, with his family by his side at his home. Kenny was born June 9, 1933, in Baileyville, son of the late Melvin and Evelyn (Dean) Hanson. He attended St. Croix High School and was a veteran of the Korean War, serving with the U.S. Army, 1745 Company KI 19th Infantry Regiment. In 1959 he married his high school sweetheart, Millie (Elliott) Hanson, and they just celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Kenny lived his whole life in Baileyville, was a proud member of the American Legion and worked at St. Croix/Georgia Pacific Paper Mills for 45 years. He enjoyed hunting, flying with his son, Keith, in their plane and restoring his antique 1948 Jeepster. His greatest joy was spoiling his granddaughter, Ashley, who was the apple of his eye. Surviving are his loving wife, Millie Hanson; son, Keith Hanson of Baileyville; daughter, DeAnna (Hanson) Gott and her husband, Joseph, of Winterport; his granddaughter, Ashley Gott of Winterport; brothers, Edward and wife, Marilyn, and Alvin and wife, Patricia; sister, Gladys McCray; sister-in-law, Connie Croman, all of Baileyville; and many cousins. Kenny will be missed by his family and his beloved cat, Jake. Visiting hours will be held 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, May 5, at Mays Funeral Home, 26 Church St., Calais, where a funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday with Pastor Bernie Hammond officiating. Burial will be afterward at Woodland Cemetery.
