FRANKFORT – Horace “Bud” L. White, 86, went home to be with his Savior May 3, 2009, after a long illness. He was born June 29, 1922, in Eustis, son of the late Carl C. and Flora D. (Cook) White. As a World War II veteran, Bud served in the 5th Army in the European Theater, manning the long toms. After his enlistment, he worked for many years in the woods, drove truck, worked as a mechanic and on a golf course in his retirement. Bud will be sadly missed by his family and many friends who knew him to be a man with a big heart and a love for life. Bud is survived by his three children, David, Darryl and Deedra; two grandchildren, Sean, and Danielle and her fiance, Shane; two great-grandsons, Devin and Derek; several nieces and nephews; his sister-in-law, Christine White; his “like a son” best friend, Arthur; and his Army buddy, Bill. Bud was predeceased by his parents; his wife of 57 years, Gertrude Louise McHale (Davenport) White; and his six siblings. A graveside service to celebrate Bud’s life will be held 1 p.m. Friday, May 8, at Pilgrim’s Home Cemetery, Haley Road, Monroe. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Bud’s memory may be made to his favorite charity, Manna Ministries, Inc., 629 Main St., Bangor, ME 04401 or to another food bank of one’s choice. Cremation arrangements entrusted to Hampden-Gilpatrick Funeral Home, 45 Western Ave., Hampden.
