THORNDIKE – Rosemary G. Cameron, 56, passed away May 1, 2009, after a courageous battle with multiple cancers. She was born Nov. 25, 1952, to James and Lucille Galvin. Rosemary grew up in Wallingford, Conn., where she graduated from Lyman Hall High School. She obtained her Bachelor of Arts in English from the State University of New York at Plattsburgh, a Master of Arts in educational administration and Certificate of Advanced Study in Educational Leadership from the University of Maine, Orono. After moving to Maine in 1980, Rosemary began a lifelong pursuit of helping people through her unique ability to blend compassion and discipline. This journey began at Unity College, where she worked in cooperative education and went on to become a senior administrator. She then transitioned to Morse Memorial Elementary School, Brooks, where she taught fourth grade for six years, then onto Norridgewock Central Grade School where she taught fourth through sixth grade until her retirement in 2003. After retiring from teaching, she became the Thorndike correspondent for the Republican Journal, covering local news and events. She was an active member of her local community and throughout her life touched so many people in both tangible and subtle ways. Rosemary was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and teacher who spent her life working to improve the lives of others. Her dedication, drive and courage was an inspiration to all who knew her. She enjoyed spending time at the family cottage in Northport, walking the sandy beaches of Sanibel Island collecting shells, family trips to Walt Disney World, gardening, cooking, old movies, ice skating, reading, writing, poetry, movies and theater. Rosemary was predeceased by father, James Galvin; and her brother, James Galvin Jr. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband, David; her son, Justin of Thorndike; son, Matthew Sibley and grandson, Ian, of Cape Coral, Fla.; mother, Lucille Galvin of Meriden, Conn.; brother, Kerry Galvin and wife, Michelle and children of Vernon, Conn.; sister, Jeanne Erazmus and husband, Don, and niece, Kayleigh Erazmus, of Middletown, Conn.; and her very dear and supportive friends. A Catholic Mass will be celebrated in her memory 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 6, at St. Francis of Assisi Church, Belfast. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to New Hope for Women, P.O. Box A, Rockland, ME 04841-0733.
