“Jon & Kate Plus 8” minus one naughty husband equals nine and lots of child support.

It’s no secret that there’s trouble in paradise in the life of TLC family of Jon and Kate Gosselin. Jon has been accused of cheating on his wife, and pictures of him with another woman have been surfacing all over the Web and in the tabloids.

Some are blaming Kate for being a control freak and driving him to it. After briefly bashing Jon, I was reminded of the episode in which Kate yelled at him for breathing.

Unfortunately, reality TV is what it is and often is edited to show only one side of the story or appear much more dramatic than the situation really was at the time. So who are we to judge? I think it’s time to sit back and wait for the couple to appear on Dr. Phil where everything will be brought to the surface and the doc will help the couple through this rough patch for the sake of their children. (Note: If that really happens, I will gag myself with a spoon).

Fortunately there’s other reality controversy to take some of the spotlight away from Jon & Kate. The question has been raised, was Paula Abdul lip-synching on Wednesday night’s “American Idol?”

I’m going to say, “YES!”

After watching the clip a few times, not only did she look a little off with her timing, the sound quality was definitely not that of a live performance. No one, with the exception of Adam Lambert, has sounded that good live on the “Idol” stage.

Based on the comments Thursday morning from those who listen to Mike and Mike on Kiss 94.5 radio and all over the Internet — most agree Abdul pulled a Milli Vanilli.

I doubt she ever ’fesses up, but I wish Simon Cowell would have put her on the spot. After all, he’s leaving the show and rarely has anything nice to say anyway.

Stay tuned for next week’s column to get the scoop on Bravo’s new “Housewives from New Jersey” and The CW’s latest “Hitched or Ditched” that’s set to air at the end of the month.
