BANGOR – Robert C. Covell, 86, passed away peacefully May 6, 2009, at a Bangor hospital. He was born Sept. 28, 1922, in Willimantic, Conn., the son of Henry T. and Eva (Goodine) Covell. He graduated from Monmouth Academy and the University of Maine, Class of 1944. His undergraduate college experience included fraternity life, Phi Kappa Sigma; football, drama, president of his class and yearbook work. His career included similar involvement in various civic organizations: Kiwanis, Penobscot Valley Regional Planning Commission, Eastern Maine Development Corp. and serving the town of Orono. He was most proud of his University of Maine and was a tremendous alumni, giving of his spirit energy and generosity as a member of the alumni association and University of Maine sporting events. Bob started his career as a claims adjuster for Travelers Insurance Co., and married his wife, Elaine, April 15, 1950. His passions were gardening, politics and all New England sports. Bob is survived by his wife, Elaine; his daughter, Jewel and son-in-law, Don Powers, of Orono; his son, Jay, and daughter-in-law, Kim, of Milford; grandchildren, Courtney Campbell and husband, Nate of Orono, Eric Powers of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Erichka Churchill of Old Town, and Nicholas Covell of Milford; great-grandchildren, Jackson, Chase and Solece Campbell; brother, Waldo Covell and wife, Janet, of Waterville; and sister, Mildred Covell of Greene. He was predeceased by two sisters, Muriel Wilson and Priscilla Onidi; and brother, Henry Covell. A memorial service will be held at a later date to be announced.
