Penquis events coordinator Maria Staples wrote she is working “to increase enrollment in the Maine Breast and Cervical Health Program,” which is one reason she is reminding readers that National Women’s Health Week began on Mother’s Day and continues through May 16.
As part of this weeklong health observance coordinated by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Office of Women’s Health, Staples wants qualifying women to know about the opportunity to enroll in MBCHP.
Women ages 40 to 64 who have no insurance, or who have insurance that does not cover Pap tests or mammograms, or women who have insurance with a high deductible, may call Staples at 973-3586 for more information about the opportunity to obtain needed services.
MBCHP “pays for mammograms, clinical breast exams, Pap tests, pelvic exams, limited diagnostic services and a network of referral services if further support is needed,” Staples explained of the program conducted through the Penquis Breast and Cervical Health Coalition.
