Orono High School graduate Ruth White won her third Maine women’s title at the TD Beach to Beacon 10K on Saturday.
The University of New Hampshire standout entered Saturday’s race as the favorite to defend her title, finishing at 34:05 to repeat as the top female finisher from Maine, according to results published by the Portland Press Herald. She won the same title in 2023 and 2025.
The overall professional titles went to Habtom Samuel and Pamela Kosgei, who both recently graduated from the University of New Mexico, who swept the men’s and women’s races. Samuel, of Eritrea, won in 27:40. Kosgei, of Kenya, won in 31:50 in her first road race.
Samuel and Kosgei were named the Mountain West Conference’s male and female athletes of the year for 2025-26 last month, making New Mexico the first school in the conference’s 27-year history to sweep both honors in the same season, according to Mountain West Connection.
The top Maine men’s finisher was Alec Troxell of Portland, who took the Maine men’s title in 29:15, according to the Press Herald. Troxell ran a 2:14 marathon in March that qualified him for the 2028 Olympic Trials and was the fourth Maine finisher at last year’s Beach to Beacon.
The race, founded in 1998 by Cape Elizabeth native and Olympic marathon champion Joan Benoit Samuelson, starts and finishes in the coastal town and is Maine’s biggest road race.
In the wheelchair divisions, Miguel Jimenez-Vergara won the men’s race in 22:36 and Hoda Elshorbagy won the women’s race in 26:25, according to the Press Herald.
