AVIS M. (BURGESS) EDES GUILFORD – Avis M. (Burgess) Edes, 79, died May 16, 2009, at a Dover-Foxcroft nursing home. She was born April 22, 1930, in Dover-Foxcroft, daughter of Elton and Eva (Crabtree) Burgess. Avis graduated from Guilford High School, Class of 1948, and worked as a telephone operator for several years. She was past president of Carbo Club, a member of Guilford Center Baptist Church and Valley Grange. She is survived by her husband, Edwin Edes of Guilford; children, Thomas Edes and his wife, Laurie, of Glenburn, Karine “Kitty” Downs and her husband, Gary, of East Dover, William Edes and his wife, Doris, of Eastbrook and Robert Edes of Dover-Foxcroft; nine grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, several cousins, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a daughter, Anine Burgess; and a grandson, Jonathan Stanford. Graveside memorial services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, May 23, at Guilford Center Cemetery with Pastor Toby Smitherman officiating.
