BRUNSWICK – Betty Nichols, 81, died May 15, 2009, at her home. She was born Oct. 28, 1927, in Waltham, Mass., the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Alvin S. Clegg. She was a graduate of Lincoln School, Providence, R.I., and Wheaton College, Norton, Mass. Although Betty’s accomplishments and life experiences might be impressive, it was her relationships that made her so special. These relationships extended to an amazingly large and diverse circle of family and friends. Physical limitations never stopped Betty from giving of herself, reaching out to others and living life to the fullest. Betty found her greatest joy in her family, her friends and her faith. Her love of life was truly an inspiration. She was predeceased by her husband, the Rev. Roger B. Nichols; and her daughter, Susan J. Cummings. She is survived by three daughters and their husbands, Janet and David Brown of Loudon, Tenn., Meredith and Cooper Friend of Ellsworth and Libby and Paul Collet of Freeport; seven grandchildren and their spouses, Matthew and Haley Treat, Christopher and April Treat, Annie Brown, Megan and Kyle Hildebrand, Cooper P. Friend, Alden Collet and Ryan Collet; her brother, Alvin S. Clegg of Wakefield, R.I.; and nephew and nieces. She was cared for and loved by many, including a treasured group affectionately knows as, “the Yayas.” A memorial service will be held 10 a.m. June 8 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Pleasant Street, Brunswick. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Friends of Fleur de Lis Camp, founded by the Episcopal Church, care of Nancy White, 13 Elmwood Circle, Peabody, MA 01960 or hospice. Arrangements are by Brackett Funeral Home, 29 Federal St., Brunswick. Condolences may be expressed at www.brackettfuneralhome.com.
