FORT KENT – Gerard L. St. Jean, 57, died May 19, 2009, at Northern Maine Medical Center, Fort Kent, after a long, courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born Nov. 5, 1951, in Clair, New Brunswick, son of Lazare and Flora Isabelle (Cyr) St. Jean. Gerard attended the University of Maine at Fort Kent, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in business, an associate degree in forestry and a minor in French. He belonged to Snowrider’s Club of Fort Kent and was a hockey coach for several years. He did his Cursillo and is now living his 4th day. Gerard had a great love for nature and truly enjoyed the beauty of living in Northern Maine. Attending Round Pond every fall with his wife, Ina and friends was one of his yearly highlights. He was also an avid snowmobiler and enjoyed riding with family and friends. He was very proud of his profession as a logger. Another passion of Gerard’s was crafting and carpentry, a trademark that has been left in many homes in the lives of those he touched. Children always made Gerard smile. They especially looked forward to spending time with “Uncle,” at the campground at Eagle Lake. Saturday nights were devoted to another of Gerard’s passions, which was his fierce loyalty as a devoted fan of the Montreal Canadians. He not only watched hockey, but also was one of five brothers that shared camaraderie by playing together on the same organized team in Canada. Gerard will truly be missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his wife of 37 years, Ina (Plourde) St. Jean of Fort Kent; two daughters, Merya and her husband, Randy Schleife, of Powhetan, Va., and their children, Annabel, Russell, Catherine and soon to be an additional son, and Jessica St. Jean of Fort Kent; four brothers, Jean-Guy St. Jean of Cypress, Calif., Clarence St. Jean and his wife, Diane, Eugene St. Jean and Daniel St. Jean, all of Clair, New Brunswick; two sisters, Marcella and her husband, Ricky Perreault, of Fort Kent and Brigitte St. Jean of Fredericton, New Brunswick; three sisters-in-law, Mona, Lucille and Louiselle St. Jean; two half sisters, his godmother, Lorette Nadeau of Clair, New Brunswick and Rita DesForges of Montreal; one half brother, Norman St. Jean and his wife, Mary, of Midway City, Calif.; one sister-in-law, Betty Levasseur of Fort Kent; and godchildren, Jino St. Jean, son of Jacques St. Jean and Mona St. Jean; Cullen Saintcross, son of dear friends, Delia Jalbert McGreal Saintcross and John Saintcross; Maryse St. Jean, daughter of brother, Gilbert and Louiselle St. Jean; Jonathan St. Jean, son of Daniel and Patsy St. Jean; Casey Boucher, son of Bert and Vickie Boucher; and Bradlee Plourde, son of Dean and Karen Plourde. He is also survived by many special nieces and nephews; and his extended family, consisting of his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Gerard and Bella Plourde; his sister-in-law, Vickie Boucher and her husband, Bert; his brother-in-law, Dale Plourde and his wife, Lynn; and his brother-in-law, Dean Plourde and his wife, Karen, all from Fort Kent. In addition to both his parents, he was predeceased by three brothers, Jacques, Marcel and Gilbert St. Jean; one sister, Jacqueline St. Jean; one sister-in-law, Patricia; three half sisters, Antoinette Luke, Yvette Coutu and Rina Cyr; and one half brother, Gilman Levasseur. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Thursday and 9-11 a.m. Friday at Daigle & Nadeau Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11:30 a.m. Friday at St. Louis Catholic Church, Fort Kent.
