JONESPORT – Roy E. Lenfestey, 60, died Wednesday, May 20, 2009, after a tragic accident at sea in Hannah’s Cove, Beals. A lifelong resident of Jonesport, he was born there Jan. 28, 1949, the son of the late Frederick and Laura (Wilson) Lenfestey. Roy attended and graduated from Jonesport schools. He furthered his education at Eastern Maine Technical College, Bangor, receiving an associate degree. Mr. Lenfestey was a U.S. veteran and served his country in the Coast Guard from 1970 to 1975, during the Vietnam War. After his honorable discharge from the service, he was the lighthouse keeper at White Head Lighthouse, Penobscot Bay, for several years. He worked in his father’s boat shop and lobster fished for several years with his dad. He served the town of Jonesport in many ways, including shellfish conservation warden, police officer, constable and animal control officer. Most recently he worked for NAPA, Machias, as parts delivery. An avid golfer, Roy received his first hole-in-one at Campobello Island Golf Course, Sept. 21, 1996. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping, especially at Kamp Karen. He also kept his hand in fishing, keeping a few traps in the water throughout the last couple of years. He shared 10 years of marriage with Karen (Chandler) Lenfestey of Jonesport. In addition to his wife, family members include his son, Lenny and his wife, Wendy; stepchildren, Sandy and husband, Charlie, LeaAnn and husband, Chris, and Michael; grandchildren, Adrianna, Hailey, Hannah, Dee Dee, Charlie Jr., Christopher, Kaitlynn and Marc; a brother, Mike and wife, Sara; a sister, Bunnie and husband, Steve; and special nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins, including Ben, Sam, Bobby, Michelle, Jimmy, Wendall, Angel, DJ, Mike, Misty, Kenneth, Krista, Ashley, Jesse and Erin. He will also be sadly missed by many family and friends, including his in-laws, Leo and Vivian Chandler Sr., Kathy and husband, Mike, Leo Jr. and wife, Irma, Sandra and husband, Donnie, Dwight and wife, Beth, Annette and husband, Tim, Leland and wife, Lorena and their son, Leland Jr., Leonard and wife, Nancy and family, Kevin and wife, Cheryl, and Lula; and many close friends and neighbors. A time of fellowship and sharing will be held 5-7 p.m. Saturday, May 23, at Community of Christ Church, Jonesport. Private burial will be held at a later date.
