Searsport Historic Preservation Committee chairwoman Marie Underwood will make an official presentation to Searsport Town Manager James Gillway of the 17 panels depicting important events in the history of the town at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 24, in the town hall auditorium.

The panels have been installed at or near sites where the noted event took place, and sponsors of individual panels will make brief presentations “of their particular interest in a given panel,” Dr. Ellen Fuller wrote.

Poster replicas of the panels will be available for viewing at the presentation, and light refreshments will be served.

As an aside, Fuller wrote that “similar panels are mounted around Belfast and, in the summer, you see people stopping to read them as they walk around the town.”

Lois-Ann Holmes of Orrington reports the JD Foundation, a group founded “to help with suicide prevention, and to help the families affected by suicide to cope,” is hosting a three-day benefit yard sale, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. today through Sunday, May 24, in Abbot.

“Just take the main road to Abbot,” Holmes wrote, and you “won’t miss it.”

Everything from antiques to baby items will be offered, along with a 50-50 raffle, ice cream, coffee and muffins.

Roxann Clapper e-mailed the second annual Dance for Dutch is 8 p.m. to midnight Sunday, May 24, at Belfast High School.

The event “is in memory and to celebrate the life of Larry Dutch,” Clapper wrote, “and the proceeds will help support the Waldo County YMCA Day Camp,” which was “important to Larry, as was gymnastics and teaching dance.”

Tickets at the door are $10 and children are admitted free.

Make-A-Wish Foundation of Maine, which plans to grant the wishes of more than 70 seriously ill children this year, is hosting its Walk for Wishes fundraiser at nine locations Thursday, May 28, and five of those walks are in our readership area.

Lisa Gleeson of Make-A-Wish in Portland reports “event day registration and check-in begins at 5 p.m. at each location,” and each walk begins at 6 p.m.

Walk sites in our area are Paul Bunyan Park, Bangor; the Congregational Church, Dennysville; John A. Millar Civic Center, Houlton; Sebasticook Valley Hospital, Pittsfield; and the Congregational Church on Limerock Street in Rockland.

The other walk sites are in Lewiston-Auburn, Westbrook, Saco-Biddeford and York.
