EAST BLUE HILL – Arnold “Arnie” McGraw, 92, passed away May 21, 2009, to join his wife, Beatrice Gray McGraw, who predeceased him Feb. 3, 2004. Arnold was born May 2, 1917, the son of Samuel and Florence (Wood) McGraw. He graduated from George Stevens Academy and married “Bea,” Sept. 17, 1938. He served in World War II and the Korean War, and was employed by Webber Cove Boat Yard for 30 years. He also worked for the Luther Holbrook family for more than 40 years, all of whom he loved as family. He was a member of Ira Berry Lodge AF & AM No. 128 of Blue Hill, East Blue Hill Village Church and East Blue Hill Village Association. Arnold was an avid and excellent golfer. He and his wife, Bea, belonged to Birchwood Golf Course, Ellsworth, for many years. He and Bea wintered in Eustis, Fla., for 17 years, where they belonged to Wedgewood Golf Course, Grand Island, Fla. Arnold was also a member of Bar Harbor Golf Course, Trenton, for five years. Arnold was well respected, loving, caring, outgoing, selfless, amazing and a humble man. Many were honored to have called him friend. Arnold is survived by the joy of his life, his daughter, Ellen McGraw Healey of Grand Island, Fla., whom he lived with since Bea’s death; two sisters, Mary and Mike Astbury and Marjorie Woodward of Blue Hill; many nieces, nephews and dear friends. He was predeceased by sisters, Sue and Dora; and brothers, Richard, Charles, William, John and Danny. A public celebration of Arnold’s life will be held in July, with a date and time to be announced.
