SOUTHWEST HARBOR – William H. Curran, 74, died May 24, 2009, after a brave battle with cancer. Our family lost a beloved husband, father and grandfather, leaving a big hole in our hearts. Bill was a friend to all who knew him, always putting others before himself. He graduated from Pemetic High School, Southwest Harbor, and married his high school sweetheart, Katherine (Harper) Curran. He served in the U.S. Air Force for four years. He worked for McEachern and Hutchins for many years as store manager in Bass Harbor and Bar Harbor. He had his own business for several years called Bar Harbor Color Center. He spent the remaining years before he retired as a paint salesman, making friends all throughout the state of Maine. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Kay; daughter, Deborah Grant and her husband, Greg, of Bar Harbor; son, William and his wife, Trudy, of Lamoine; daughter, Melinie Sue Jackson and her husband, Ed, of Bar Harbor; son, Kevin and his wife, Rhonda, of Orlando, Fla.; and son, Chester and his partner, Ron Kopp, of Tampa, Fla. He had eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. In accordance with Bill’s wishes, there will be no services.
