WINTERPORT – Capt. Frank Lewis White, 80, passed away May 24, 2009, at a Bangor hospital, after a courageous battle with a long illness. He was born April 1, 1929, in Silver City, N.M., the son of Laurence C. and Dorothy M. (Cowan) White. Captain White spent 30 years in the U.S. Navy serving on sea duty and shore duty out of both the East Coast and West Coast, and a tour of duty in Antarctica. He retired in 1976 from duty in Hawaii and he and his wife, Charlotte, returned to live in Winterport on the farm where Charlotte was born and Frank and his son, Stuart, have a wood working shop. He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Charlotte (Libby) White; his children, Lesley and her husband, Carl Dunkerley, of Carlisle, Pa., Stuart and his wife, Debbie, of Winterport and Libby and her husband, Andrew Smith, of Monroe; eight grandchildren, Sherri and David Rowland, Steven and Stephanie Dunkerley, Travis White, Brooke Ellen White, Rozalyn White, Amber Duncan, Rachelle Duncan, Bethia and Ben Feeney; and four great-grandchildren, Makala White, Alyssa and Erica Rowland and Grady Feeney. A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 14, at Pilgrim’s Home Cemetery, Monroe. Arrangements entrusted to Hampden-Gilpatrick Funeral Home, 45 Western Ave., Hampden.
