WASHINGTON – William Brewster Packard, 77, passed away Friday, May 22, 2009, at Pen Bay Medical Center, Rockport, after a brief illness. He was born Sept. 3, 1931, in Fort Kent, a son of the late Raymond and Alice Wadlin Packard. He attended local schools and was a graduate of Monroe High School. In 1950, his parents moved to Washington and in 1952, he met and later married Priscilla Babb. During that time, he served in the U.S. Air Force in Korea during the Korean War. After four years overseas, he returned to the states and spent the rest of his enlistment at Dow and Dover Air Force bases until being honorably discharged in May 1960. After returning to Maine he bought a farm and he and his wife lived there until his death. Bill was an avid hunter and fisherman. When he was a young man, he enjoyed spending time boating, fishing and teaching his family how to water-ski on Long Lake. He also enjoyed camping and snowmobiling. Bill will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him. He was a member of Hill & Gully Snowmobile Club, Washington and VFW, Augusta. He was predeceased by his parents; and son, Randall Packard, in 1979. Survivors include his wife, Priscilla Packard of Washington; children, Laurie Packard of Washington, Raymond Packard and his wife, Carrie, of Sidney, and Richard Packard and his wife, Tina, of Sebago; sister, Natalie Boudreau of Florida; brothers, James Packard of Union and Joseph Packard of Waldoboro; five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews; and companion, Ruth A. Ross of Rockland. A graveside service will be held 10 a.m. Friday, May 29, at West Washington Cemetery, West Washington. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Humane Society of Knox County, P.O. Box 1294, Rockland, ME 04841. Arrangements are entrusted to Hall Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 949 Main St., Waldoboro.
