BREWER – Doris Caroline McClare, 80, passed away peacefully May 30, 2009, at a Bangor health care facility. She was born Nov. 23, 1928, in East Noel, Nova Scotia, the daughter of Jehu and A. Frances (McLellan) Densmore. Doris lived in East Bridgewater, Mass., for many years before moving to Brewer in 1970. She was a member of the International Sorority Beta Sigma Phi since 1972. Doris was a longtime member of First Congregational Church, Brewer. She enjoyed camping, crafts, crossword puzzles and traveling. She is survived by her children, Earl McClare and wife, Brenda, of Thomasberg, Ontario, Janet Salvador of Brockton, Mass., Cristine Hanson and husband, Lloyd, of Craftsbury, Vt., and John McClare of Brewer; two sisters, Merriel Walsh of British Columbia and Ola Tappen of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia; grandchildren, Gillian, John, Ashley and Allison McClare and Christy Robbins; and a great-grandchild, Abigail Salvador. She was predeceased by her husband, George “Bud” McClare; a grandson, William Salvador; and two brothers, Marvin and Elmer. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, June 2, at Brookings-Smith, Clark-Piper Chapel, 55 South Main St., Brewer, where funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 3, with the Rev. Grace Bartlett, pastor of First Congregational Church, Brewer, officiating. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at Brookings-Smith Reception Rooms, 55 South Main St., Brewer, after the service. Interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery, Brewer.
