MADAWASKA and FORT FAIRFIELD – John A. Towers, 56, husband of Florence (Michaud) Towers, passed away Thursday morning, June 4, 2009, at a Bangor health care facility, after a brief illness. He was born July 7, 1952, in Fort Fairfield, son of John “Jack” and Anna (McKenney) Towers. He attended Fort Fairfield schools and was a graduate of the Plattsburg (N.Y.) school system. He was employed as an electrician with International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Union No. 567 and was a member of Westbrook Eagles Club. He married Florence Michaud, Sept. 25, 2004, and was a communicant of St. Denis Catholic Church, Fort Fairfield, where he served as an alter boy in his youth. He attended St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, Madawaska, for the past several years. John always lived his life to the fullest, always had fun and greatly enjoyed his occupation as an electrician. John was predeceased by his parents. He is survived by his wife of four years, Mrs. Florence Towers of Madawaska; one son, John Derrick Towers and his wife, Beth, of Hermon; two daughters, Blenda Risteen and her husband, Danny, and Mae Towers, all of Rockland; two stepsons, Shawn Michaud of South Portland and Andrew Michaud of Hollis; one stepdaughter, Kelly Michaud and her companion, Alan Saucier, both of St. Francis, New Brunswick; one brother, Edwin A. Towers and his wife, Terry, of Camillus, N.Y.; one sister, Patricia Struble and her husband, David, of Pittston; two grandchildren, Cleary Risteen of Rockland and Julia Towers of Hermon; four stepgrandchildren, Evan and Harley, both of Madawaska, and Emma and Ryan, both of St. Francis, New Brunswick; several nieces and nephews. He will be dearly remembered by his very best friend, Craig McGlinn of Caribou. In keeping with John’s wishes, there will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Thursday, June 11, at St. Denis Catholic Church, 147 Main St., Fort Fairfield. Interment will be held after the funeral Mass at St. Denis Catholic Cemetery, Fort Fairfield. Those who wish may contribute in memory of Mr. Towers to Madawaska Ambulance Service, 428 Main St., Madawaska, ME 04756. Arrangements have been entrusted to Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main St., Fort Fairfield.
