SALEM, Mass. – Mildred Weiss, 91, a longtime Salem, Mass., resident who summered in Montville, died Friday evening, June 5, 2009, at Lafayette Nursing Home. She was born in Brookline, Mass., daughter of the late Nathaniel and Lillian Ethel (Marquis) Weiss. After her education, Miss Weiss was employed by General Electric for many years as a draftsperson, until her retirement. Mildred developed into a woman with a lot of spunk, who was very proactive with a community minded spirit. Although she had many causes she fought for, her two favorites had a common theme of protection. This included caring for battered women, as well as establishing and maintaining animal rights. She is survived by two nieces, Deborah Crowle of Danbury, Conn., and Paula Babolia of North Salem, N.Y.; a great-niece, Lisa Dowling Fuller of St. Pete Beach, Fla.; and a great-nephew, Charles P. Bobolia of North Salem, N.Y. Private funeral services are under the direction of Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St., Salem, Mass. A memorial service will be announced at a later date. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, MSPCA-Angell, attention: donations, 350 South Huntington Ave., Boston, MA 02130.
