CALAIS – John “Jack” Lindsey Wood, 81, passed away June 9, 2009, with his family by his side at a Bangor hospital. John was born Aug. 8, 1927, in Calais, to Lindsey and Evelyn (Carll) Wood. He attended local schools and graduated from Calais Academy, Class of 1945. Jack married the love of his life, Jean Porter, Nov. 10, 1949, with whom he raised his two children and shared almost 60 years of marriage. Jack was employed for 18 years by A&P as a meat cutter. He later went on to retire from Georgia Pacific, where he worked in payroll and inventory control. Jack was a lifetime Masonic member of St. Croix Lodge No. 46. He enjoyed spending summers at Howard Lake with his family and especially loved time spent with his grandson, Chris, whom he would always put to work in some way or another. In addition to his wife, Jean G. Wood, Jack was survived by a son, John E. Wood; and a daughter, Regina H. Taylor and her husband, George Jr., all of Calais; one sister, Jean Leach of Calais; a grandson, Chris Taylor; one nephew, Philip Leach of British Columbia; and one cousin who was like a brother to Jack, Richard Love of Adams, Mass. Visiting hours will be held 6-8 p.m. Thursday, June 11, at Mays Funeral Home, 26 Church St., Calais. A funeral service will begin 1 p.m. Friday, June 12, at the Seventh-day Adventist Church, 8 Chapel St., Calais, with Pastor Ed Fleisch officiating.
