MILBRIDGE – Avis “Bam” S. Hawkins, 85, formerly of Steuben, died Sunday, June 14, 2009, with her loving family by her side, at a Milbridge health care facility. She was born Jan. 15, 1924, in Steuben, daughter of the late Bernard and Myra (Follett) Sinclair. Avis worked for many years at Union Trust, Milbridge, as a bank teller, retiring in 1985. She was a warm and caring woman who really loved her family. She shared 34 years of marriage with Melford “Miffie” C. Hawkins, who died in 2000. Family members include a daughter, Nancy West and husband, Herman, of Milbridge; a son, Gus Hite of Hampden; grandchildren, Charles Hite and wife, Michelle, Thomas Hite and wife, Sarah, and their mother, Sandie Wainwright, Penny Grant and husband, Elliott, and Susan Rumery and husband, Clay; great-grandchildren, Chris Hayward and wife, Ericka, Meagan and Brian Hayward, Cameron Brooks and AJ Hite; great-great-grandchildren, Cailyn and Braydon Hayward; and a very special friend, Sandy West of Steuben. Relatives and friends are invited to visit with the family 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Bragdon-Kelley Funeral Home, 47 Main St., Milbridge, where a service of remembrance will be held 2 p.m. Thursday. Burial will be after at Village Cemetery, Steuben.
