WINDHAM – Eugene W. Guptill’s courageous battle with cancer came to a peaceful end June 13, 2009, when he passed away at home, with his wife, son, daughter and sister-in-law by his side. He was 65. Gene was born April 2, 1944, in the town of Lubec, the oldest son of Lois Tucker. He graduated from Lubec High School in 1962 and moved to Connecticut to work for Wiremold. He married Frances in August 1965, and together they raised their children. In 2001, after working for Wiremold for 40 years, he retired and moved to Windham, to be near his children and grandchildren. Upon retiring, he volunteered as a “Mr. Fix It,” delivered meals for Meals on Wheels, and enjoyed working with his son-in-law starting a business. In leisure time, he enjoyed traveling, gambling at Foxwoods and golfing with friends. However, most days you could find him playing sports, boating, wrestling and laughing with his cherished grandchildren. He was predeceased by his sister, Diane Stafford; his grandson, Logan Hartwell; and most recently, his brothers, Gary and Richard Guptill. Gene was a strong, funny, devoted and caring family man who will be sadly missed by his mother, Lois Tucker of Lubec; his wife of 43 years, Frances Guptill; his son, Gene and his wife, Kim (Setter) Guptill and their children, Ryan and Devon; his daughter, Kim (Guptill) Hartwell and her husband, Joshua and their children, Aiden, Dylan and Elizabeth; sister-in-law, Bonnie Guptill and her family; sister-in-law, Tammy Redmond and her husband, Jay, and their family; and his devoted lifetime friends, Dominic “Doc,” Marie Petrella and many others from Lubec. There will be no calling hours. A graveside service will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, June 27, at Corey and Corey Cemetery, Lubec. Arrangements by Dolby Funeral Chapel, Windham.
