CARIBOU and ST. JOHN -Joseph Caron, 89, died peacefully June 14, 2009, at the Maine Veterans’ Home, Caribou. He was born Nov. 29, 1919, in St. John, the son of Joseph Sr. and Jane (Emery) Caron. Joseph was a World War II veteran, private first class, with the 22nd Infantry, having been a recipient of the third highest military award, the Silver Star for gallantry in action while serving in the vicinity of Cherbourg, France, June 23, 1944, and the Good Conduct Medal, June 8, 1943. He belonged to VFW Lozier O’Grady Post No. 9609 and served in the Battery C 1st Battalion 152 FA, State Armory, Fort Kent, for five years. Joseph is survived by his five children, Wayne and his wife, Sylvia Caron, Gary and his wife, Carla, Diane and Eugene Berube, all of St. John, David Caron and his fiancee, Augustine, of Woodland, and Steve and his wife, Kathy Caron, of Limestone. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, Connie, Danny, Stephanie, Connie, Bambi, Candice, Travis and Toby; three great-grandchildren, Jasmine, Lily and Trevor; several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his wife, Bertha (Jandreau) Caron, in 1990; one son, Sheldon Caron, in 1998; and by his brothers and sisters. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Friends may call 10-11:45 a.m. Thursday at Daigle & Nadeau Funeral Home, Fort Kent. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated noon Thursday at St. John Catholic Church, St. John. Committal services with full military honors will be afterward at the parish cemetery.
