DEXTER – Vernard L. McKenney, 83, died peacefully June 14, 2009, at his home with his family by his side. He was born Sept. 12, 1925, in Dexter, a son of Culbert and Flossie (Thompson) McKenney. He worked for Fay-Scott Machine Shop, Dexter, for many years and retired from Eastland Woolen Mill, Corinna. He was a member of Church of Christ, Pittsfield. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Margaret (Bates) McKenney of Dexter; three children, Richard McKenney of Corinth, Jane Hall of Dexter and Tamara Headlee of Texas; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents; an infant son, David; two brothers and a sister. Funeral services were held June 17 at Crosby & Neal, Dexter, with Clermont Spencer officiating. Burial was at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Dexter. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Penquis Foster Grandparent Program, P.O. Box 1162, Bangor, ME 04402.
