LINCOLN – Cheryl “Sherry” (Crafferty) Ireland left on the wings of angels to be with her Lord June 20, 2009. She was born Aug. 27, 1944, in Newark, N.J., the daughter of William Sr. and Frances Crafferty. She was the loving and devoted wife of Chandler C. Ireland. Sherry enjoyed spending time with her many friends and family, hosting many holiday feasts and weekend barbecues. Sherry enjoyed camping in Bar Harbor, reading and playing bingo. She was an avid traveler who loved to visit with family in New York, Pennsylvania and Michigan. One of her favorite places to visit was Las Vegas, where she and Chandler traveled often with their friends, Cindy and Bruce. Sherry worked for many years at Mattanawcook Junior High School, where she was respected and loved by all. During the summers, she worked in the fields for Bud Smith, as well as at his strawberry stand. She was a member of Eastern Star, American Legion Auxiliary and Lincoln Center Baptist Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher for many years, as well as the secretary. She served on many committees while supporting her husband as a Mason and as an Anah Temple Shriner. She is survived by her beloved husband of 41 years, Chandler; her three daughters and their families, Kellie and Mark Daneau of New Hampshire, Wendi Ireland and Jamie Oldenburgh, Hollie and Steve Farrington, all of Lincoln; her grandchildren, Joseph Pelkey, Katarina Pelkey, Kersten Daneau, all of New Hampshire, Kristie Libby and her husband, Brad, Nikki Oldenburgh and her companion, Dan Whittier, Joshuah Farrington, Keegan Farrington and Koby Farrington, all of Lincoln; her brother, William Jr. and his wife, Donna Crafferty, of Lincoln; and her sister, Alice Crafferty of Newark, N.J. She is survived by her husband’s family, who she enjoyed the last 42 years with: Earl Ireland and his wife, Linda, Galen Ireland and his wife, Carol, and Mary E. Ireland. She leaves behind her beloved pets, Daisy, Annie and Mouse. She was predeceased by her parents and her husband’s parents. Family and friends may call 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Monday, June 22, at Clay Funeral Home, 7 Lee Road, Lincoln, where funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 23, with her three daughters performing the service with the assistance of Pastor William Bewell. At Sherry’s request, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to either Penobscot Valley Humane Society or Lincoln Center Baptist Church. Donations may be left at the funeral home.
