GRINDSTONE – Robert C. Gordon, 54, passed away June 21, 2009, surrounded by members of his family at a Bangor health care facility. He was born May 9, 1955, in Millinocket, the son of Carleton and Thelma (Mills) Gordon. Robert was a graduate of Schenck High School and ITT Technical Institute of Boston, with a certificate in automotive mechanics. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and a member of Big Bucks Club of Maine. He was a huge fan of auto racing, and a builder of racecars and racecar engines. He competed successfully at racetracks around Maine. He is survived by three siblings, Kenneth of Auburn, Timothy of East Millinocket and Ruth (Gordon) Ingalls of East Millinocket; nine nieces, Julie Packard, Vanessa Gordon, Heidi Schwartz, Michelle Irvin, Kimberly Ingalls, Rebecca Ingalls, Erin, Sarah and Lauren Gordon; several great-nieces and great-nephews. The family thanks the workers at Bangor International Airport and the employees of the City of Bangor for their support during Robert’s illness. They also thank the staff at Stillwater Healthcare for their compassion and care during Robert’s stay there. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
