AUGUSTA – Joyce Nelligan, 84, formerly of Bangor, passed away peacefully Wednesday evening, June 24, 2009, at Maine Veterans’ Home, Augusta. She was born May 20, 1925, the second of four sisters to Pearl MacDonald and Loomis Foss. After graduating from Bangor High, she married Bill Nelligan, also of Bangor. His extensive Air Force career allowed them to travel the World based in locations such as Korea and Turkey. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, mother, father; two sisters, Gwendolyn Foss Strang and Valerie Foss McCraw; and nephew, Cary Comer. Surviving are her daughter and son-in-law, Barbilyn and Cony Church of Augusta; a granddaughter, Candace Lynn Austin and her husband, Jeffrey, of Raleigh, N.C.; a great-granddaughter, Riley Lynn Austin; sister and brother-in-law, Frankie and George Comer of Springfield, Mass.; plus several dear nieces and nephews. She is loved dearly and will be missed, but she left us all with stories full of laughter to last us a lifetime. A joint service for Joyce and Bill Nelligan will be held at the Augusta Veterans’ Cemetery at a future date. Arrangements are in the care of Knowlton and Hewins Funeral Home, One Church St., Augusta.
