HERMON and PENOBSCOT – Sally Ann Bryce, 54, died Monday, June 29, 2009, at a Penobscot health care center. She was born Sept. 20, 1954, in Bangor, the daughter of John William and Loraine (Thayer) Bryce. Sally attended St. Mary’s Catholic School, Bangor and graduated from Bangor High School, in 1973. She went on to earn a degree in criminal justice at Tarrant Community College, Fort Worth, Texas. After a long time family tradition in law enforcement, Sally spent 13 years serving the citizens of Forest Hills, Texas. Sally’s career came to an end in 2001 when she was critically injured in the line of duty. She moved back to Bangor in 2006 to be near her mother and sister. In 2007, Sally moved to Penobscot Nursing Home and they became her second family. Surviving, in addition to her mother, Loraine of Hermon; are one sister, Susan McLain and her husband, Stephen, of Bangor; three brothers, Richard P. Bryce of Fort Myers, Fla., and Hermon, Henry H. Dow and his wife, Joanna, of Oden, Md., and Joseph P. Cadorette and his wife, Pam, of New Bern, N.C.; maternal grandmother, Dorothy Thayer of Hermon; her children, Bryce, Brayson, Benjamin and Brandee Beth and seven grandchildren, all of Texas; and two aunts and their families, Phylliss and Kenneth McAvey of Hermon, and Ida Daigle of Kenduskeag. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins; and close friends, Joanne and Barb. She was predeceased by her father, in 1984; and her maternal grandfather, Clyde Thayer, in 1975. Sally’s family wishes to convey to the staff of Penobscot Nursing Home that they have a special place in their heart and they gratefully acknowledge the outstanding care provided. A service honoring Sally’s life will be held 2 p.m. Friday at Kiley & Foley Funeral Service, 299 Union St., Bangor, where family and friends may visit 1 p.m. until the service begins.
