LUBEC – Donald Gilbert Parker, 66, passed away peacefully July 4, 2009, at his home, after a long, courageous battle with cancer. He was born Sept. 30, 1942, in Lubec, the son of Bun and Maxine Parker. Don was a loving father, husband and grandfather. He was a 1962 graduate of Lubec High School and served his country in the U.S. Navy. After his service, Don made his career in iron working and retired from Iron Workers Local No. 496 in 1992. His love of fishing, boats and boat building were true passions. Don also enjoyed playing his banjo, guitar and drums, and could be found many weekends playing with his band members in the Orange River Jazz Band all over Washington County. Don was a proud member of Washington Masonic Lodge No. 37 AF & AM, American Legion Stuart-Green Post No. 65 and Lubec Lions Club. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Jane (Ashby) Parker; a daughter, Allison Parker Beal and husband, Tony Beal; granddaughters, Lauren Marie Beal and Leah Jane Beal; brother-in-law, Dick Bradley; special foster sisters, Cynthia Pike, Marie Butera and Debbie Lyons; niece, Brenda Gay Barker; nephew, Michael Gay and wife, Ling Ye; great-niece, Maddie Barker; close cousins, Dick Correll and wife, Sharon, Bill Chipman and children, Eric and Sonja; and special friends, Wayne Wallace, Vaughn Hill and Mickey McCurdy. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Sandra Jean Bradley; and a great-nephew, Joshua Barker. Services will be held 6 p.m. Saturday, July 11, at Christian Temple Church, Lubec, with Pastor Gary Look officiating. Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to Washington Lodge No. 37 AF & AM, Lubec or American Legion Stuart-Greene Post No. 65, also in Lubec. Arrangements are in care of McClure Family Funeral Sevices, Lubec.
