LIMESTONE and CASWELL – Emery E. “Bud” Donovan, 75, beloved husband of Gladys M. (Summerson) Donovan, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Monday morning, July 6, 2009, surrounded by his loving family, at his Limestone residence, after a brief illness. He was born Dec. 9, 1933, in Caribou, the son of Angus and Felecia (Howland) Donovan. He attended Caswell and Limestone schools and served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. Bud married Gladys M. Summerson, Oct. 24, 1959, and had been employed in the potato farming industry for many years. He later became employed at the former Loring Air Force Base in the snow removal and grounds maintenance departments until his retirement in 1999. Bud was also self-employed as a carpenter for many years. Bud will be remembered as a “jack-of-all-trades.” He was an avid gardener and woodworker. He enjoyed camping and built model airplanes for many years. Bud also greatly enjoyed painting by numbers to occupy his time during the winter months. Mr. Donovan’s greatest joy was his family, especially his three grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Bud was predeceased by seven brothers, Richard, Lynwood, Loomis, Edwin, Norman, Bertie and Gregory “Sonny” Donovan; and one sister, Nessie Elliot. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Mrs. Gladys M. Donovan of Limestone; one son and daughter-in-law, Darren and Melissa Donovan of Waterville; one daughter, Elaine Everett of Westfield; one brother and sister-in-law, Philip and Betty Donovan of Wayland, N.Y.; one sister and brother-in-law, Goldie and Robert Hurtworth of Middlebury, Conn.; three grandchildren, Lauren and Travis Rand, both of Westfield, and Callaway Donovan of Waterville; numerous nieces and nephews. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, July 8, at Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main St., Fort Fairfield, where a funeral service will be conducted 1 p.m. Thursday, July 9, with the Rev. Roger Jewell officiating. Interment will take place at Peers Cemetery, Caswell. A time of continued fellowship with refreshments will be held after the interment service at Bud and Gladys’ home, 145 Philbrick Road, Limestone.
