HERMON – Richard Warren Gustafson, 56, died peacefully July 6, 2009, surrounded by his loving family, at a Bangor hospital. He was born Sept. 20, 1952, in Bangor, son of Warren Alfred and Eleanor May (Woodbury) Gustafson. Richard was a graduate of Bangor High School, Class of 1971, and was employed for 23 years by Bangor Water District, where he worked with many close friends. He was an avid sports fan who enjoyed the Boston Red Sox, the New England Patriots and the Boston Celtics. He also enjoyed fishing with his family, family cookouts, car shows with his brother, Ray, and quality time with his family. Surviving are his loving wife of 34 years, Jacqueline (Voye) Gustafson; a special daughter, Kristen M. Kelleher, both of Hermon. He had a special bond with his three grandchildren, Aidan “his little buddy,” Dominik and Kaitlynne. Survivors also include his twin brother, Raymond Gustafson of Bangor; his sisters and their husbands, Victoria and Walter Holman of Bangor, Brenda and Paul Travis of Bangor, Catherine and Raymond Day of Shirley, Sonya and Fred Brown of Glenburn; his aunt, Thelma M. Woodbury of Bangor; uncle, William Woodbury of Clifton; a special mother-in-law, Ruth Irene Voye; brothers-in-law, John and Karen Voye of Eddington, Gary and Donna Voye of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Vincent Voye of West Paris; sisters-in-law, Desiree and Richard Sites of Bowdoin, Linda Voye of Wesley Chapel, Fla., Cindy and Jaycee Creps of Hebron, Patricia and Donald Ouellette of Sabattus; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; a brother, David Gustafson; grandparents, Mabel and Richard Gustafson; grandmother, Alice Fowler; grandfather, Lloyd Woodbury; a cousin, Claudia Woodbury; and brother-in-law, Keith Voye. Relatives and friends are welcome to call 6-8 p.m. Thursday, July 9, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, where a funeral service will be held 1:30 p.m. Friday, July 10, with the Rev. Clayton Blackstone, pastor of Advent Christian Church of Bangor, officiating. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments after the service Friday at Brookings-Smith Family Center, 163 Center St., Bangor.
