LUBEC – Shirley E. (Wilcox) Joy, 77, passed away July 5, 2009, and was followed by her husband of 57 years when Byron Chester Joy, 84, passed away July 7, 2009. They were both born in Lubec. Shirley was born Sept. 21, 1931, the daughter of Lloyd H. and Gladys B. (Mahar) Wilcox and Byron was born June 21, 1925, the youngest of 15 children of Fred and Annie (Nodden) Joy. They were both educated in Lubec schools, and after school Byron served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1946 in the South Pacific, then re-enlisted in the U.S. Army serving in Germany from 1948 to 1952. After his discharge in 1952, he returned to Lubec, where he and Shirley were married and raised their family. Byron worked for the Puss N’ Boots Factory while it was in Lubec. They are survived by two daughters, Hope J. and her husband, Steven C. Pressley I, and Susan M. and her husband, John E. Barker; a son, Adam Byron and his wife, Deb Commune Joy; grandchildren, Steven C. Pressley II and companion, Tabitha Archer, Shannon J. Feltner and husband, William, Justin J. Barker and wife, Sonya, Brittany M. Barker, Myles Nipper and Ruby M. Joy; great-grandchildren, Hailey E. Boutin, Olivia E. Feltner, and Aeva M. and Sydney M. Pressley; many nieces, nephews and cousins. Shirley is also survived by her sister-in-law, Janice Wilcox. They where both predeceased by their parents. Shirley was predeceased by her only brother, Gerald Wilcox. Byron was predeceased by his 14 siblings, Raymond, Lenora, Alfred, Austin, Irma, Madeline, Ralph, Marguerite, Mary Elaine, Arnold, twins Ronald and Donald, Eugene and his twin, Myron. Those wishing to make donations in memory of Shirley and Byron may do so to the charity of one’s choice. Graveside memorial services will be announced at a later date. Arrangements are in care of McClure Family Funeral Services, Lubec.
