PITTSFIELD – Lloyd W. Rines, 79, died July 19, 2009, at a Pittsfield hospital after a short illness. He was born March 17, 1930, in Pittsfield, the son of Leon and Pink (Farmer) Rines. He was educated in Burnham schools. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in Germany for two years as a corporal. Lloyd always was a hard worker. As a young man he worked for the railroad shoveling snow and unloading boxcars. He married Lillian Wise, May 19, 1951, in Burnham. Lloyd always provided for his family, usually working two jobs. He worked as a hand sewer at Dexter Shoe for many years and at Northeast Shoe. He worked for the town of Pittsfield at the town office and also at the cemetery for many years. He also was a school crossing guard and had many great memories of the children. Lloyd always had a smile and a hello for everyone he met. He enjoyed his small family farm with its animals and gardens. He enjoyed fishing in both summer and winter, and spending time at his camp in Plymouth. His main joy was his family. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Lillian Wise Rines of Pittsfield; one son and his wife, Fred and Mary Lou Rines of Pittsfield; two daughters, Virginia and her husband, Wayne Basford, of Detroit and Carol Rines and her companion, Chuck Lambert, of Detroit; two sisters, Barbara Gerry and Joann McDougal, both of Pittsfield; five grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter, Sheila Southard; and a grandson, Christopher Rines. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Thursday, July 30, at Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Service Center, 34 High St., Newport. Graveside services will be conducted 1 p.m. Friday, July 31, at Pittsfield Village Cemetery with the Rev. William Johnson officiating.
