CUTLER – Athyleen B. Peabody, 92, passed away July 20, 2009, at a Lubec nursing home. She was born Oct. 16, 1916, in Cutler, the daughter of George and Alice (Ramsdell) Porter. She was a member of Machias Valley Senior Citizens and Cutler Methodist Church. In earlier years, she operated a hotdog and hamburger stand, and then went on to operate a gas and grocery store at the head of the river, which in later years she made into her home. She loved to sew; making many pillows, quilts, aprons and holders. She also loved to cook and was always making something for someone. She was a great mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. She is survived by her daughter, Elsie Foss and her husband, Auldin, of Machiasport; a son, Leeland Peabody and his wife, Debbie, of Bella Vista, Ark.; a daughter-in-law, Bonnie of Cape Coral, Fla.; a brother, Alfred Porter of Jacksonville; a sister, Lillian Ronfelt of Scarborough; several grandchildren to great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. She will also be sadly missed by friends, Vance and Arlene Davis, and Nancy and Fred Hastings. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Lynwood Peabody, April 28, 1978; a son, Carroll; and two brothers, Charles and Adin Porter. Graveside services at New Cutler Cemetery will be announced at a later date. Arrangements are in care of McClure Family Funeral Services, Lubec.
