ST. ALBANS – Barbara A. Estes, 68, died peacefully Tuesday, July 21, 2009, at her home. She was born Sept. 17, 1940, in St. Albans, the daughter of Albion L. and Edith A. (Leavitt) Neal. Barbara attended schools in St. Albans. She married Daniel Estes and together they raised their family. During her working career, she had been employed by Sebasticook Valley Hospital in both housekeeping and in medical records. Barbara was full of life and love. She was an angel to her family. She loved music. She sang, played guitar, and enjoyed listening to Daniel O’Donnell and many others. She was a great cook and would always make an extra big batch of stew or chop suey and invite family over to share it with her. She enjoyed picking blackberries and fiddleheads, made beautiful afghans for her family, and loved to watch and feed the hummingbirds. She will be dearly missed. She is survived by her children, Dawn Dubay and her husband, Glenn, of Corinna, Kristy Morse of Palmyra, Lewis Estes of St. Albans, and Denise Plourde and her husband, Charles, of Barrington, N.H.; her grandchildren, Tamra-Jo, Nicholas, Devin, Brittany, Joseph and Haley; her siblings, Laura Smith of St. Albans, Almeda Page of Palmyra, Carroll Neal of St. Albans, Wayne Neal and his wife, Lorraine, of St. Albans, Blaine Neal and his wife, Dorothy, of St. Albans, Robert Neal of Madison, Dorothy Bates and special friend, Joe, of Eddington, and Darrell Neal and his wife, Ethel, of St. Albans; a special niece, Darlene Sides and her husband, Boo, of Hartland; many special brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was predeceased by her husband, Daniel Estes; and three children, little Danny, Tammy and Kathy-Jo; two brothers, James Edwards and Lewis Neal; and a sister, Shirley Ryder. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Thursday, July 23, at Shorey-Nichols Funeral Home, 191 Hartland Ave., Pittsfield, where a funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Friday, July 24, with Dean Neal officiating. Interment will be immediately after at Village Cemetery, Cemetery Road, St. Albans. Friends and family are all invited to a gathering at Barbara’s home after the committal service.
