CARIBOU and PORTAGE LAKE – Joseph “Mel” McPherson, 74, died unexpectedly July 26, 2009, at his Caribou residence. He was born April 28, 1935, in St. Francis, the oldest son of Hanford and Marguerite (Dubois) McPherson. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War. He is survived by his wife, Diane (Page) McPherson of Caribou; two sons, Melvin and wife, Elaine, of Mars Hill, and Joseph and friend, Meredith, of Caribou; seven brothers, Bob of Easton, Merle of Presque Isle, Raymond and Peter, both of Connecticut, Roy of Windham, Neal of South Carolina and Herb of Portage Lake; three sisters, Doris Farnham of Massachusetts, Irene Bossie of Dixmont and Linda Rand of Fort Fairfield; eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife, Helen, in 1986. Relatives and friends may call 1-2:30 p.m. Thursday at Stimson-Ouellette Funeral Home, 114 Exchange St., Ashland, with a graveside committal service immediately after at Portage Lake Municipal Cemetery with Pastor Nathan Gardiner officiating.
