EDGEWATER, Md., and ALFRED – The Rev. Katherine M. Fisk, 62, of Edgewater, Md., and formerly of Alfred, died July 26, 2009, at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House, Scarborough. She was born June 17, 1947, in Minneapolis, a daughter of James and Marie (Amacker) Fisk. Kathy was a graduate of Belmont College, Nashville, Tenn., and moved to a warmer climate in Florida, where she was employed as a proofreader for the Daytona Beach Newspaper. Kathy was a woman filled with faith who never doubted her call to ministry. She entered Bangor Seminary and completed her education with strength and tenacity. Kathy’s gift for rigorous academics, including ancient Hebrew, was only surpassed by her sense of humor and compassion for all of God’s creatures; human or otherwise. Besides her commitment to the ministry, Kathy loved to sing. Her voice was clear and beautiful to listen to. Kathy toured Europe with a choral group from Southern Maine and was a member of a choral group in Annapolis, Md. Kathy was a pastor, a teacher, a counselor and a friend to many. She never let distance or situations separate her from the love of her friends or from the love of God. Kathy graduated from Bangor Theological Seminary with a Master of Divinity degree and from the University of New York at Albany with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1988. She was called to the pastorate of Trinity United Church of Christ, Delmont, Pa., 1989-1993, where she was ordained, Aug. 6, 1989. The Rev. Fisk was pastor of Alfred Parish Church, United Church of Christ, 1993-2000. In 2001, she was called to be the pastor of Holden Congregational Church, United Church of Christ, 2001-2006. Her most recent position was as senior minister of United Church of Christ of Annapolis, Edgewater, Md., from 2006 until 2009. Kathy loved the outdoors and loved traveling. Her smile and distinctive laughter and creative sense of humor made her a joy for those she knew. Her spirit will live on and on in the hearts of the people who knew her. She will be deeply missed. Family members include her son, John Andrew Burford of Orlando, Fla.; her brother, James A. Fisk and wife, Jennifer; niece, Allie; and nephews, Rob and Tommy Fisk, all of Wayzata, Minn. A service celebrating Kathy’s life and ministry will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 29, at Alfred Parish Church, 12 Kennebunk Road, Alfred.
