CUTLER – Clifton Lewis Hudson, 83, died quietly July 28, 2009, at home with his daughter at his side. Clifton was born Feb. 11, 1926, in Fairfield, son of Charles and Marguerite (Leighton) Hudson. Clifton proudly served his country in the U.S. Army under the leadership of President Franklin D. Roosevelt. He served in combat in the Pacific Theatre. On his return home, Clifton fished and worked at various sardine canneries. After that he was employed at Cutler Naval Base until his retirement. Clifton was predeceased by his wife, Annabelle Katherine (Durgan) Hudson. He is survived by their children, Anne Newman and her husband, Winslow, of Campobello, New Brunswick, Kenneth Hudson and his wife, Margaret, of Vernon, Conn., and Mary Hudson of Buck’s Harbor. Clifton is also survived by his grandchildren, Shannon Hill, and Sharon Berry and husband, Dana; and great-grandchildren, Katherine, Kaitlyn, Ryan and Aidan, who brought him great joy. Also surviving are his sister, Valerie Gerari and husband, Peter, of Houston, Texas; many nieces and nephews. During the last several years of Clifton’s life he was blessed with the company of friends, Violet and John Morton, Herman Brown, Chris Smart, Arthur Breton, Marvin and Sandra Mitchell, and many others who helped him along the way. Clifton was also predeceased by his second wife, Merlin McKinley Hudson; and his beloved sister, Jeannine Case. A graveside service with military honors will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 1, at Greenlawn Cemetery, Lubec, with special nephew, Bruce Davis officiating. Friend and craftsman Gary Matthews has lovingly crafted the urn receptacle.
