BANGOR – Frederick R. Sands, 77, died July 30, 2009, at the Maine Veterans’ Home, Bangor. He was born May 27, 1932, in Washburn, the son of Woodford and Casstella (Parker) Sands. He served in the U.S. Armed Services during the Korean War and received a certificate of appreciation from the Citizens of Maine for his honorable service. Fred was a very talented artist. He is survived by his son and wife, Aaron Sands and Marianne of Brandon, Fla.; and his sister, Geraldine Woods of Belfast. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers, Woodrow and Earl; and two sisters, Edith and Alta. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 6, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, with the Rev. Clayton Blackstone, pastor of Bangor Advent Christian Church, officiating.
