BANGOR – Myra B. (Crocker) Burgess, 87, died Sunday, Aug. 2, 2009, at an Orono health care facility. She was born Nov. 12, 1921, in North New Portland, the daughter of Fred and Bernice (Horn) Crocker. Myra loved to garden and enjoyed a 26-year career at Bangor Mental Health Institute. She was a past member of Riverside Grange No. 273, Penobscot Pomona Grange No. 8 and the Maine State Grange. Myra is survived by her children, Sharon Bennett and her husband, Wayne, of Camden, Cheryl Murray and her husband, James, of Bradley and James Burgess and his wife, Mary, of Florida; brother, Hubert Crocker and his wife, Lyma, of Bangor; sisters, Fern Petley and her husband, Ronald, of Anson and Leah Churchill of Cannan; sister-in-law, Theresa Crocker of Anson; grandchildren, John Bennett of Camden, James Murray and his wife, Sally, of St. Cloud, Minn., Sean Murray and his wife, Karol, of Argyle, Sharon Murray of Bradley, Mary Whitmore of Taftville, Conn., Kathryn Burgess of Newport Richie, Fla., and James “Eddie” Burgess Jr. and his wife, Becki, of Brewer; great-grandchildren, Melissa, Samuel, Annah, John, Sarah, Kaitlin, Alex, Christine, Jordan, Jamie, Brooke, Paige and Kayleigh; and one great-great-grandchild, Briannah. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by brothers, Malcolm, Leland, Leyton, Wendall and Charles Crocker; sisters, Madeline Crocker and Leonora Butterfield; and a granddaughter, Destiny. Relatives and friends are welcome to call 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 5, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 6, at St. Paul the Apostle St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 768 Ohio St., Bangor.
