BANGOR and BREWER – Ronald George Brown, 58, died Aug. 4, 2009, surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with kidney disease at his home in Bangor. He has gone home to the Lord and his parents, who predeceased him. Ron was born Nov. 16, 1950, in Camden, son of Douglas H. and Ana M. (Brewer) Brown. Ron was a graduate of Bangor High School, Class of 1969, and a 1973 graduate of the University of Maine with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English. He was a well-known freelance writer and athletic coach. Surviving in addition to his wife, Shelly (Hall) Brown of Bangor, are three sons, Scott D. Brown of Boston, Todd A. Brown of South Burlington, Vt., and Nathan R. Brown of Bangor; one granddaughter, Amelia M. Brown of South Burlington, Vt.; one sister, Debra B. Additon and her husband, Donald; a niece, Rachel Additon, all of Sarasota, Fla.; and his wife’s family of the Guilford area. Relatives and friends are welcome to call 4-7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 6, at Brookings-Smith, Clark-Piper Chapel, 55 South Main St., Brewer. A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 7, at Columbia Street Baptist Church with the Rev. Peter Sprague, pastor, and the Rev. Lee Witting officiating. Interment will be at Mount Hope Cemetery, Bangor.
