FRANKFORT – Lawrence E. “Larry” Hoyt Jr. died Aug. 4, 2009, after a courageous battle with cancer. Larry was born May 6, 1941, in Skowhegan, son of the late Lawrence E. “Scrapper” Hoyt Sr. and Ernestine (Kinney) Hoyt of Fairfield. Larry was raised in Skowhegan and Fairfield, where he graduated from Lawrence High School, Class of 1959. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and went on to receive electrical engineering degrees from Wentworth Institute and Northeastern University, Boston, and worked for Central Maine Power Co., Augusta. He received a degree in wildlife management from the University of Maine, Orono and worked for the state of Maine. He later became a woodland manager and performed selective wood cutting of wood lots with the use of his horse, “Bud.” At the time of his illness, he worked as the head custodian at Reeds Brook Middle School, where the students knew him as the “Lone Protector,” through their participation in Larry’s Stay Healthy Program. He had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing and hunting. He held a black belt in karate and especially loved working with children. Larry was a member of Evangelical Baptist Church, where he taught Sunday school for many years. Larry is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Ellen (Brassbridge) Hoyt of Frankfort; his beloved daughter, Hillary Hoyt, also of Frankfort; and his sister, Judy Gleason and husband, David, of Alton, N.H. Larry will be sadly missed by the Brassbridge family, but in particular by his special brother-in-law, Russell. He will be greatly missed by his many nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
