AUGUSTA, Maine — Gov. John Baldacci on Thursday formally unveiled the Maine stamp from the U.S. Postal Service’s Flags of Our Nation Series.
Maine’s stamp depicts a moose next to the state flag, which features a state shield on a sea of blue and the word ‘Dirigo,’ which is Latin for “I lead.”
Natasha Knight performed “State of Maine Song” during the State House ceremony led by Baldacci and Dale Dunn, acting postmaster in Augusta.
The Postal Service began rolling out the second of a three-year wave of flags in June. The program began last year and continues in alphabetical order through 2010.
