SULLIVAN – Erma C. Lowndes, 88, died Aug. 10, 2009, at her residence. She was born March 31, 1921, in East Sullivan, the daughter of Fred B. and Eva L. (Merchant) Johnson, the fourth of 10 children. Irma grew up in East Sullivan and later lived and worked in New York. She later moved back to Sullivan; one mile from her birthplace and where she died peacefully in her sleep. She was a member of East Sullivan Church. After it burned she became a member of Ashville Church, a member of the Garden Club, aka the Squat and Gobble Club, and Dority Grange of Sullivan. She is survived by her husband of almost 66 years, George of Sullivan; sons, George F. of Sullivan, Don, and Dick and wife, Karen, all of New York; grandchildren, Don, Jason, Michael, Kara, Amy and Ryan; great-grandchildren, Riley, Delaney, Casey and Ava; brother, Harold of Bangor; and sisters, Amelia of Hancock, Rudy of Pennsylvania and Nana of Corea. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 14, at Jordan-Fernald, 113 Franklin St., Ellsworth.
