SUMMERSVILLE, W.Va. – Capt. Ira Vernon Reed, 90, died Aug. 11, 2009, in Summersville, W.Va. He was born April 12, 1919, in Bucksport, the son of Ira and Celia Reed. Capt. Reed was a member of Columbia Street Baptist Church. He worked as a lobster fisherman and yacht captain in Maine and Florida before retiring. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Dorothy; brother, Neil; and sister, Fern Bennett. Capt. Reed is survived by daughters, Anne VanPelt of Tazewell, Va., and Donna McGeeney and son-in-law, Dennis McGeeney, of Summersville, W.Va.; sisters, Dorothy Parker of Hampden and Phyllis Allen-Park of Hermon; as well as many grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
